With New Centers Opening, Chabad Expanding its Reach in Tucson - Arizona Jewish Post

Rabbi Joseph (Yossie) Shemtov moved to Tucson 23 years ago with the intention of opening 25 Chabad centers in 25 years. It’s unlikely that will happen in the next two years, says Shemtov, but Chabad is growing in Tucson… The Chabad Lubavitch branch of Hasidic Judaism, founded in what is now Belarus in the second half of the 18th century, was led by Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson from 1950 until his death in 1994. It was under Schneerson’s leadership that Chabad began to send emissaries around the world to energize more observant Judaism.
