“Kahrut” which is synonymous with “proper” is the set of rules with which Kosher Food has to be prepared. Any dish made in accordance with these guidelines is called Kosher and similarly any Jewish food cannot be called as Kosher food. So to put it in nutshell Kosher denotes to following legal guidelines of Jewish religion strictly.
Now here are some basic laws that are to be followed to prepare Kosher food:
Set of five books of Moses otherwise called as Torah states that mammals that cud-chew and which are cloven-hoofed like sheep, deer and goat are known as Kosher foods.
In united states of America not all birds are considered Kosher. Turkey, Chicken, Duck and goose are some birds that are considered as Kosher.
This might come as a little disappointment to sea food lovers because one of the most delicious sea foods, lobster is not Kosher for the absence of fins and scales that can be removed without difficulty. It is also important for the fish monger to be Kosher because unless and until he is a Kosher the tools which he uses on the fish are not considered Kosher and a Kosher food cannot be prepared without Kosher Equipments.

Families following Kosher Dietary Methods must be in the habit of having two different sets of vessels for cooking, serving and eating. One set should be used for meat as well as poultry and the other for the rest. The two sets must also be washed and dried separately.
