The Spouse’s Role in Judaism

Many people who consider choosing Judaism, initially do so because of marital and/or parenting considerations. In such situations, the spouse’s active involvement in and support for the process will be of critical importance. One partner’s choice to become Jewish will obviously affect a marital relationship. Among other important challenges, you will need to work together to decide on the type of Jewish life style you want for your home. Often times,

such discussions force a partner who was born Jewish to reexamine long held assumptions or attitudes. Again, patience, a sense of humor and a willingness to be open are really important and helpful qualities. But, above all, both partners need to be actively engaged in this transitional process.
