Parsha of the Week: Bamidbar

Shabbat Shalom to everyone! For those of us that weren’t able to make it to Temple today or last night and want to read about this week’s Parsha, it is Bamidbar. Here is a brief summary. Being the first Parsha of the fourth book of Moses, Bamidbar, the Parsha deals with G-d asking Moses to conduct a census of his tribes and also delineates the Levy’s, Priests, method of setting up the Sanctuary and their camp as well.
The Parsha goes into great length giving the name of each of the 12 tribes and they amount of people within them. For a complete list visit: http://www.chabad.org/parshah/article.asp?AID=2121.

The Parsha concludes by mentioning that a leader from each tribe has been appointed as a diplomat and

is given the title of a Nassi (which in Hebrew means President or Leader). Each Nassi was given the task of choosing a tribal color, flag and creating a tribal emblem.

Look out for a weekly Parsha posting either Friday nights or Saturday afternoon. Shabbat Shalom!
