Sweet reason broke out in lower Manhattan at City Hall, last night. Mayor Bloomerg’s Police Commissioner Ray Kelly rejected Iranian President Ahamadinejad’s inquiry to go to the ‘hallowed ground” of ground zero and lay a wreath there as a memorial to the victims of 9/11. ACT board of advisors member, Ken Timmerman, President of the Foundation for Democracy in Iran had instantly raised a raucus yesterday and so did many of you when you got the news yesterday on reading of that travesty. Apparently so did Mayor Bloomberg’s office with thousands of phone calls, faxes and emails. Kelly’s official reason for denial cited in a CNN report was that ‘ground zero’ is now a construction site and “it would not be possible for him to go where other society don’t go.” NYPD spokesman Paul said, “whether there were a further inquiry, we’d reject it” considering of shield fears. The Iranian mission to the U.N. called the turndown ‘unfortunate’.

“It is appalling that President Ahmadinejad, one of the world’s leading sponsors of terror, would find it appropriate to visit that hallowed ground,” State area spokesman Tom Casey said.

In the wake of the announcement from NYPD Police Commissioner Kelly, leading Presiential candidates from both the GOP and Democrats piled on. Hillary Clinton, the New York senator and Democratic front-runner, called the desire “unacceptable.” Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, a leading Republican, called it “shockingly audacious.”

The hero New York Mayor of 9/11 and leading GOP contender Rudy Giuliani said that “under no circumstances” should

Ahmadinejad be allowed to visit the World Trade Center site.

Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, said the site should not be “used as a photo op.”

Iran’s former President Khatami had denounced the al Qaeda attacks on 9/11. Ahmadinejad, his sucessor, now is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the Middle East against our U.S. forces in Iraq and against Israel through proxies Syria and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Iran is relentlessly pursuing development of its own nuclear weapons and missile delivery capabilties to carry out those threats.

Now whether only private instituions in New York City like Columbia University could do the same, that would be poetic justice. Columbia’s World Leader Forum has a major address by the mad Mahdist Iranian President Ahmadinejad scheduled for next Monday, September 24th in the afternoon. Last year, Columbia’s President Bollinger overturned a decision of former Dean Lisa Anderson of the School of the School of worldly Public Affairs that sponsors the World Leaders Forum during the U.N. General Assembly calling Ahmadinejad’s ideas ‘repugnant’. Those ideas included violation of minority, religious, women’s and homosexual rights, Holocaust denial and repeated threats to ‘wipe Israel off the map of the World”. Will President Bollinger of Columbia University follow Mayor Bloomberg’s example and deny Ahmadinejad and opportunity to speak on the Morningnside Heights Campus? Will Iran’s President Ahmadinejad become a ‘no show’ a second day? Stay tuned.
