Israeli ship collides with Chinese fishing boat

Italian ship owned by Israeli shipping company Zim crashes into small fishing boat near Qingdao; it is unclear whether any of Chinese fishermen were injured

An Italian ship owned by an Israeli shipping company collided with another ship off the shore of the Chinese city of Qingdao, Ynet has learnt.

The large shipping boat collided with a smaller Chinese fishing vessel on its way to Shanghai, where Chinese authorities questioned the Zim crew.

Zim flew the crew back to Israel to conduct its own investigation into the accident.

It remains unclear if any of the Chinese fishermen were injured.

The ship’s crew was questioned over allegations that they collided with a Chinese fishing vessel. Zim is conducting an investigation into the accident,” Zim said in a statement.

In September 2005, a Zim ship collided with a Japanese fishing vessel, capsizing it

and killing seven fishermen.

An investigation led to the indictment of the ship’s assistant captain on charges of causing death by negligence.
