Herbert Hoover: Worth Any Number of Barack Obamas

by Bill Levinson The political Left likes to equate Presidents it doesn’t like, especially Republicans, to Herbert Hoover. The truth is that Hoover was one of America’s better Presidents who found himself (like George W. Bush) in circumstances created by greedy and irresponsible speculation in the stock market and/or real estate. (Democrat Bill Clinton was similarly in the wrong place at the wrong time when the dot-com market crashed.) Hoover’s successor, Franklin Roosevelt, did not get the United States out of the Great Depression; the Second World War, which suddenly created millions of jobs in defense industries and the Armed Forces, did. Let’s compare the actual records of Barack Hussein Obama and Herbert Clark Hoover respectively. Young Adulthood: Barry and Michelle Obama Barack Obama tried pot and cocaine in college, and wrote a book (”Dreams from My Father”) full of racist content including criticism of a Black classmate who dated a white woman. Tim was not a conscious brother. Tim wore argyle sweaters and pressed jeans and talked like Beaver Cleaver. …His white girlfriend was probably waiting for him up in his room, listening to country music. “Dreams From My Father,” pp. 101-102 …I ceased to advertise my mother’s race at the age of twelve or thirteen, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites… (page xv) Michelle Obama meanwhile wrote a dissertation with racist content. Earlier in my college career, there was no doubt in my mind that as a member of the Black community I was somehow obligated to this community and would use all of my present and future resources to benefit this community first and foremost. My experiences at Princeton have made me more aware of my “Blackness” than ever before. These experiences have made it apparent to me that the path I have chosen to follow by attending Princeton will likely lead to my further integration and/or assimilation into a White cultural and social structure that will only allow me to remain on the periphery of society. [page 2] Michelle LaVaughn Robinson [Obama], “Princeton Educated Blacks

and the Black Community,” page 2 Young Adulthood, Herbert and Lou Hoover From Whitehouse.gov He married his Stanford sweetheart, Lou Henry, and they went to China, where he worked for a private corporation as China’s leading engineer. In June 1900 the Boxer Rebellion caught the Hoovers in Tientsin. For almost a month the settlement was under heavy fire. While his wife worked in the hospitals, Hoover directed the building of barricades, and once risked his life rescuing Chinese children. This was in fact at Tianjin or Tientsin, which played a role in the movie 55 Days at Peking . Hoover, a mining engineer, was apparently able to apply his skills to military engineering as well. Pre-Political Career: Barack Hussein Obama Barry the Community Organizer worked with ACORN, the same organization whose employees seemed quite willing to work with a (fake) pimp to import children for sexual purposes. He and his wife attended a racist church with racist pastors–Jeremiah Wright’s successor praised Michael Pfleger’s racist comment about “a whole lot of white people crying.” He later consorted openly with hate groups like Al Sharpton’s National Action Network and MoveOn.org. Pre-Political Career: Herbert Hoover After the Armistice, Hoover, a member of the Supreme Economic Council and head of the American Relief Administration, organized shipments of food for starving millions in central Europe. He extended aid to famine-stricken Soviet Russia in 1921. When a critic inquired if he was not thus helping Bolshevism, Hoover retorted, “Twenty million people are starving. Whatever their politics, they shall be fed!” Hoover’s orchestration of post-war relief efforts resulted in Belgium naming a square in Leuven Hooverplein (Hoover Square), and we read somewhere that Finland adopted “Hoover” as a loanword that means “to help.” Barry the Community Organizer has less than three and a half years to come even close to this record. He seems well on track instead to make Jimmy Carter look like a halfway effective President, and maybe that is why Carter seems to like him so much.
