Fit for Life

No matter how old you are or what shape you are in exercise and physical activity is good for you.

If you are interested in staying independent, having more energy, improving your balance, preventing or delaying diseases like heart disease, diabetes, or cancer then keeping active is the answer.

Physical activity has also been known to improve your mood and help reduce depression.

Getting benefit out of physical activity is the key. You must make endurance, strength, balance and flexibility your focus.

If you are not used to physical activity, it is wise to check with your doctor.

Be safe rather than sorry. By following some of the following tips, you can make sure you do not have an accident:

1. Start slowly. Build up your activities by working on them a few minutes every day.

2. Don’t hold your breath during strength exercises. Generally, the rule is to breathe out as you lift something and breathe in as you relax.

3. Using safety

equipment pays off. A helmet is great for bike riding. Wearing the right shoes will help you for walking or jogging.

4. Do not limit your fluid intake while exercising unless your doctor has asked you to limit your intake of liquids.
