‘Tis the season for kosher grilling

From Memorial Day through Labor Day, those of us fortunate to have some outdoor living space can escape the heat of the kitchen and participate in the great American pastime - backyard barbecuing.

Back in the day, anyone who kept kosher was lucky to find one or two brands of bottled barbecue sauce. And those were just bland and basic. Either you bought them, or you had to make your own from scratch.

Luckily, there are now dozens of brands and hundreds of varieties that bear a kosher heksher (certification symbol), everything from Asian (San-J, OK) to lemon ginger (Olde Cape Cod, OU), cranberry (Olde Cape Cod, OU) to hickory smoked (Mikee, Kof-K).

Go to the supermarket and take a stroll down the condiments aisle. You’ll be surprised by the vast selection of barbecue sauces that are kosher. If you prefer to sit

There’s no excuse not to kick up your summertime cooking and get grilling.
